First Time  KUCCPS HELB Loan Application  2022/2023

Students who were placed at various universities by KUCCPS can now apply for a HELB loan through the HELB portal. Students who are self-sponsored may also apply.

Eligible students for Helb Loan Application

Those who can apply for first time undergraduate loan;

  • Students placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) in the local and private universities
  • Self-Sponsored, Parallel and Module II Students studying for a Bachelor’s Degree only (Pre-University, Certificate, Diploma or Postgraduate students ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY)Negative listing if you are in default. This lowers your credit score thus limiting your access to credit facilities.

Procedure for Applying for a HELB Loan

Below is a guide on how to apply;

  • Applicants should visit our website www.helb.co.ke to access the Student Portal and click on “create an account to register.
  • Log in and select Undergraduate First Time Loan Application Form [LAFJ.
  • Read the literature or view the videos on Financial Literacy and participate in the brief exercise online.
  • Access and fill the loan application form.
  • Print TWO copies of the duly filled Loan Application Form.
  • Have the forms appropriately filled, signed and stamped by the relevant authorities.
  • Read, understand and sign to accept the Loan Terms and Conditions.
  • Present one copy of the duly filled Loan Application Form and all the attached support documents at:

 The online application procedure includes the documents that one must have to assist him or her when applying for HELB for the first time, as well as an online application guide. The maximum HELB loan that a university student can receive is ksh. 60,000, and the minimum HELB loan that a student can receive is ksh. 35,000.

Application Requirements for Helb

  7. Details of any three people who will be your guarantors that are already employed (You should have a copy of their ID)

How to apply for HELB guide

For first-time applicants, follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Visit the official HELB portal
  2. Enter your ID and  first name
  3. Click Validate
  4. Complete Registration for with your email and password and click register
  5. Start filling your form accurately. Don’t skip any step (You will be expected to fill personal details, education, university, parents, family expenses, guarantors, and Bank details). So make sure you have them.
  6. After you have completed filling your form accurately go to the homepage to confirm whether you have filled your form correctly
  7. After confirming that you have filled your form correctly go to home page and the click the icon indicated “Print form” to print your HELB Form. Print tow copies.
  8. After filling your form, ensure that all the parts required to be signed have been signed and stamped
  9. Attach the required documents and present the filled form to the nearest huduma center helb desk.

HELB Profile continues to be updated by students.

The HELB has switched to a new student portal. All continuing students must update their profile.

1) Go to the new student portal

2) enter your ID and first name

3) Click Validate

4) Complete Registration for with your email and password and click register (Use the email address you used in the old account to register for a profile in the new portal)

How to File an Appeal for a Helb Loan Rejection

Getting a HELB loan is a guarantee for all students as long as you fill out your application correctly. HELB does not pick and choose which students receive HELB and which do not. I was a HELB recipient, so I'm speaking from experience.

HELB Loan appeals are simply reapplying for a HELB loan after being rejected the first time, or requesting that your loan reward be increased.

How to File an Appeal for a HELB Loan

Follow the procedure below;

  1. Visit: helb Portal
  2. Login to the student portal
  3. Click Loan Application menu
  4. Go to the HELB Loan Type (Certificate, Diploma, or Undergraduate)
  5. Then ClICK Undergraduate Loan Appeal/Review Form, click the plus sign
  6. Fill the online appeal form. Make sure that you have provided evidence to justify your case if you want to appeal for Loan Increase
  7. Then Submit the form online
  8. You will be notified if your appeal was successful or not

HELB Loan Rejections Reasons

  1. Some of the most common reasons for HELB loan rejections are as follows:
  2. You provided inadequate information during the application process.
  3. You provided false information during the application process.
  4. For subsequent applicants, you might have been banned from applying because you provided wrong parents income information

Beneficial Ownership information is a Kenyan law that requires companies to provide shareholder information. Full names, ID numbers, ID numbers, dates of birth, business addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, percentage of shares, and other information are required when registering as beneficial owners.

How to Obtain Beneficial Ownership Information

The process of registering for beneficial ownership information is simple and can be done online via  brs eCitizen portal using the step-by-step procedure provided below.  

  • Visit eCitizen portal and login or register: ecitizen.go.ke. 
  • In your dashboard, click on Business Registration Services.
  • If asked to login, do so again.  
  • Go to Business
  • If your B.O. Status is pending, then you need to provide your information. 
How to register for Beneficial Ownership Information online
  • Click on View. 
  • Then at the top menu, click maintain a company 
  • Click on Beneficial Owners Tab on the left 
  • Then on the right click Change Particulars (Change of Officials) 
  • Then Click Update BO (Beneficial Ownership) Tab 
  • Fill in all the details (total ownership, direct ownership, voting rights, influence in the company, residential address, date of becoming a BO) 
  • After you are done filling in all the details click Save 
  • Then click Save and Continue 
  • Fill in the required information in the form, sign, and upload the document. 
  • Click Save and Continue. 
  • Confirm that the information you have provided is correct and click Finish. 
  • You are done.
